I am above the clouds on Mt. Washington. I
have taken off my backpack and
because it is always windy here, put on my fleece pullover to keep
me warm until
my trek down. I hiked up here with a group from the AMC store
in Nashua.
This was taken in
1993 and is "another" hike up to Tuckerman's Ravine
to watch everyone ski. Sometimes
you never hit snow until you hit the bowl.
Looks like I am thinking "boy its going
to be another bad hair day"
Looks like a little snow on the ground and I am out for an overnighter.
It is not fun
hiking in the snow, but I am sure it started out as a nice day.
One thing
I can say about the Appalachian Mountain Club is that they have
a lot of volunteers that
help maintain the trails in New Hampshire. Here
is a wooden path that was
constructed over a very wet area that would be
impassable and would destroy
the natural environment of a wetland if they did
not put this path down. They
also put in wooden stair steps on a few very steep
ledge climbs that would be
impossible to continue the trail, if it was not there.
They also take care of trees
that fall over a path, and help with the drainage of
some of the paths. Hikers
are very aware of their environment and most will
help clear and many follow
the rule of what you hike in with (trash), you hike
out with it as well. We
also know it is important to stay on the path and not
walk on very fragile
vegetation.
I could go on and
on with pictures and my passion, however, this will give
you an idea of how
"Life is Good".
Here is a link to my hiking
