This picture
was also taken in the mid 1990's. I am not sure where I am skiing but
it looks like my kind of slope. I consider
myself an intermediate skier and I do not
like advance trails "at all". Bretton Woods,
N.H. is my favorite skiing place.
My real passion for skiing is the Bretton Woods
cross country ski area. I had many
pictures, however, I can not find them. Being
in the woods at Bretton Woods
cross country skiing is a thrill. You can
go out skiing for hours and never hit the
same trail twice. I also love working my
way to the top of Heart Break Hill and skiing
down. Because the trail is a groomed trail,
one must decide to go for it and speed down
the hill, or half snow plow with one ski out of
the track to keep your speed down.
I just go for it, say geronamo and yell with glee
all the way down. If I fall - it's worth it.
Because I am an avid hiker, there a lot of hiking
trails that I have cross-country skied
on in the winter. There is also an
AMC hut that is open in winter. It is quite a trek in
but it is nice and flat going there and
you see signs of moose all over the place. Also
you see a lot of friendly people doing the
same thing on snow shoes as well. It is the
Zealand Falls Hut and in the winter is open
on a caretaker basis only. This is found
in the Twin Mountain Area and you start
at Zealand Falls Road.
The Oliverian Brook Trail off of the Kancamagus
Highway is another excellent
cross country trail. There is a
place in Wolfboro that I must put on my list to try.
