Who can borrow?  The Nichols Library offers user cards without fee or residence requirement.  This  is in accordance with Mr. Nichols wish to "make this Library open and free not only residents of the Town of Center Harbor, but equally so to the people and children of surrounding towns, and that a most earnest and cordial welcome may be extended to the summer cottages and visitors." Visitors are welcome to use comptuer worksations as long as they register with Library staff.
How long can you keep loans? You can borrow items 2 weeks; 5 days for videos and DVDs. All items may be renewed as long as there are no reserves placed  by another patron. Should an item be lost, it is expected that the borrower will pay the Library to replace the lost item.
How do you find an item in the Library?  You can search our computerized patron catalog  by author, title, call number, subject and keyword . The catalog indicates if material is in the Library or out in circulation. The Library Staff will be happy help you sue the catalog or to print bibliographies. The Catalog can be accessed online as well as at the Library.

Late materials.  the Library cordially encourages members to return materials on time. There are no  late fees but patrons are welcome to make a donation to our conscience jar.  Materials more than six weeks overdue may be subject to lost materials charges.
If the Nichols Library does not have an items you are interested in, we can try to borrow it from another library.  In 2004, we brought in 209 items from outisde sources. Delivery day for borrowed items is Friday.
