Access and Patron Services:
 
borrowing, loan periodsand late materials, interlibrary loans, computers, passes, and services to persons with disabilites.


Who can borrow?   Our Library  has no residency requirement  or registration fee.  Visitors may use computer workstations as long as they register with Library staff. 

Loan  Periods
:
 
print materials and audio books can be borrowed for 2 weeks; dvds and videos for five days. All items may be renewed unless there are reserves placed  by another patron. 

Late materials: the Library does not charge late fees ( patrons are welcome to make a donation to our conscience jar).   Lost or damaged items  are subject to replacement charges.

Browsing our collection.  You can search our computerized catalog in the Library or at home. Learn how to search, place reserves and make reading lists  here

Interlibrary loan. If the Nichols Library does not have an items you are interested in, we can try to borrow it from another library.  In 2004, we brought in 209 items from outside sources.  Deliveries take place every Friday.
Computer Resources and Policies. The Library provides three computer workstations  for public internet access.   The Library also provides a wifi uplink.  Workstations are equipped with word and spreadsheet software.  Public computer users are asked to register and sign our browsing policy.  Children up to and including the age of 8 must have a parent or guardian assist them.   The Library Staff will help patrons search the web as time allows.
 
Passes to NH Activities: we provide admissions passes to the Squam Lake Science Center, the Shaker Village Museum (Canterbury), the Wright Museum (Wolfeboro) and the Currier Museum of Art in Manchester. The pass to the Christa McAuliffe Planetarium (Concord) was not being renewed for 2008.  Passes are partially funded by the Meredith Village Savings Bank,  Trustee Donors, and the Library.

  Library Access for Persons with Disabilities
  • for the Vision impaired. Nichols Library offers large print books and audio CDs and tapes. The Library also participates in the NHSLs audio download program and provides access to the State's Talking Books program. 
  • for the Physically impaired.  The Library, in patnership with the Altrusa Club of Meredith, can arrange book delivery for the homebound.  Contact the Library for details.   The NML, due to its historic status, lacks wheelchair access, but the Library can arrange for chair bound patrons to get borrowing cards from accessible area libraries.
