Children above age 6 can get their own library card,
but parents are still responsible for any fines until they are 18 years of age.
Please note the privacy policy below if you are giving your child a card.
Video/DVD Policy
Videos and DVDs have a 7-Day loan period with a $1.00 per day overdue
fee. No grace period will be allowed for overdue
videos and DVDs. You may renew the item once for another 7 days but you
must renew the item BEFORE it is OVERDUE. Fines max at $10.00
per DVD/VHS, or, replacement cost of the item plus $10.00 in fines after 60
days.
Privacy Policy: The Barrington Public Library follows state laws concerning the privacy of all library borrowing records. Titles of items on loan will only be disclosed to the card holder. Parents need to be aware that children have the same privacy rights as adults, and title names will not be given to parents. If you choose, you can take items out on your card for your child until you feel they are ready for the responsibility. Please note: if your child comes to the library by themselves, they must use their own library card and their privacy rights will be protected. Signing off on your child's library card makes you financially responsible for lost, damaged, or late items on their card but it does not give you legal access to their private borrowing records.
Non-resident borrowers
may purchase a card for $50.00 per year.
There is a $2.00 lost card fee.
Cards
are required at time of checkout. If your card
is not present, a photo ID is required and a limit of three items will be imposed.
Any patron who has to be called for overdue items more
than three times in a year will be limited to a three-item checkout until items
are returned on time. Patrons with chronic overdues may have their borrowing
privileges curtailed further or revoked permanently.
All other library materials will be fined at .10 cents per day per item with a 2-day grace period and a maximum fine of $6.00 per item. If an item is lost, the full replacement cost plus a $2.00 processing fee will be charged, plus any overdue fees accrued before the patron came in to take care of the issue.
