FARMINGTON SCHOOL BOARD

MEETING OF JANUARY 6, 2003

FARMINGTON HIGH SCHOOL LIBRARY

NON-PUBLIC SESSION I

BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT:                    STAFF PRESENT:

Dave McGuigan, Vice Chairman                    Brian Blake, Superintendent

Dave Vachon                                                     Deborah Briggs, Bus. Adm.

Richard Cilley                                                    Jean Parsons, Dir. PP

                                                                            Joel Chagnon, Asst. Principal

Student SR and  parents came before the board.  Introductions followed.  Dave explained rights to public session  and right to counsel.  Parents declined and wished to proceed.

Joel explained that Student SR has received three suspensions.  One is for indecent exposure; two for assault on other students.  Board members spoke to student.  Student explained that he tends to do things before he thinks.  He regrets things after he does them.  He explained that he does like school, wants to graduate and go on to tech school.  Brian asked student why the board should let him back in school.  Student explained he can do it but he needs to try.   Discussion followed.  

Mr. Chagnon asked if he would be willing to stay after school to make up any work that he has been behind in.  Student explained he would be willing to stay after school to get caught up on any work that needs to be done.

Student and parents asked to step out of the room while the board made its decision.

Recommendation of administration: 

Allow student to return to school, no further suspendable offenses; three after school sessions to make up work until completed and no further absences or tardiness without parental written permission.

MOTION:   Dave Vachon moved to approve recommendation of administration

SECOND:   Richard Cilley

VOTE:          Unanimous

Parents and student returned .  Dave McGuigan explained board decision.

MOTION:                 Dave Vachon moved to come out of non-public session.

SECOND:                Dave McGuigan

VOTE:                    Unanimous at 7:35 p.m.

Discussion on personnel issues.

Brian has the following resignations:

Jean Merrill submitted her resignation, part-time speech.

MOTION:                Dave McGuigan moved to accept with regret

SECOND:                Richard Cilley

VOTE:                    Unanimous

Brian presented the following nomination:

Joy Cross, resource room  para-professional replacing Peg Hapsis

$12.00 per hour

MOTION:  Dave McGuigan

SECOND:  Richard Cilley

VOTE:         Unanimous

Brian presented the resignation of Karen Taylor – lunch worker 3 hour day @ $6.70 an hr.

Lori Smith – replacement

MOTION:                Dave McGuigan moved to approve resignation and replacement

SECOND:                Dave Vachon

VOTE:                    Unanimous

MOTION:                Dave McGuigan moved to come out of nonpublic session

SECOND:                Dave Vachon

VOTE:                    Unanimous
