FARMINGTON SCHOOL BOARD MEETING OF March 3rd, 2003 FARMINGTON HIGH SCHOOL LIBRARY Todd Lefebvre, Chairman Brian Blake, Superintendent Steve Yurick Jean Parsons Richard Cilley Deborah Briggs Dave Vachon Mike Lee, Principal Peter Weaver, Asst. Principal Student BY and parents came before the board. Introductions followed. Todd explained rights of public session and right to counsel. Parents asked to move forward. Mr. Weaver explained that student came to school on the 20th of February and seemed to be under the influence of marijuana. Student admitted to smoking marijuana, explained he made a poor choice. He was suspended from school. Discussion followed . Board members spoke to the student. Student explained that he wants to go through school and play some sports. History is his favorite subject. He made a mistake and regrets it. Mr. Lee explained that this student has not been in any trouble in the past and is doing much better in his classes. Student explained he wasn’t thinking when he made this decision. He would not make this same mistake again. Parents and student were asked to step out while the board discussed the situation. Mike’s recommendation: Allow student to return to school after the 10 days suspension. To complete all homework during the 10 day suspension. Waive the impact of the attendance policy for the year. Behavioral probation through the 1st semester of next year. Meet with the Superintendent randomly MOTION: Steve Yurick SECOND: Dave Vachon VOTE: Unanimous Parents and student came back before the board. Mr. Lee explained the board’s decision. Parents and student left. Brian presented a nomination for a paraprofessional position: Geraldine Allard – Step Four - $9.00 per hour – 3 ˝ hours per day. This is a funded position. MOTION: Todd Lefebvre moved to accept SECOND: Steve Yurick VOTE: Unanimous MOTION: Todd moved to come out of non public session.
