Ken Dickie arrives at 6:35 p.m. Todd Lefebvre asks JC if he wants to speak on his own behalf. JC would like to return to school this year and learn as much as possible. He would like to continue with Art. He would like to graduate. He is willing to go through his senior year twice so that he can graduate. Steve Yurick explains that JC must do what the State requires of him, in order to graduate. He tells him that this should be the easiest time of his life, not the hardest. Rich Cilley wants to know why we are seeing him during his senior year, when we have not seen him before. Is there another issue here? JC would really like to change. He has skipped detention to go to work, and has great attendance there. Ken Dickie explains to JC that his education should come before work right now. Todd Lefebvre asks Mom and JC to step out of the meeting so that a decision can be made. Mr. Lee will let them know the decision of the Board. RECOMMENDATION: Return with restrictions. He must be on time, there cannot be any unexcused absences. He can learn time management. He must live up to this, or he cannot come back again. MOTION: Rich Cilley motions to approve recommendation. SECOND: Steve Yurick VOTE: Unanimous Mike Lee leaves the meeting. Butch Lewis enters the meeting for the second student. Student Two. Mom, Dad, and DJ enter meeting. Todd Lefebvre explains that they have the right to counsel, and to have this meeting in Public Session. The parents decide to move forward with the meeting. Butch Lewis explains that DJ is coming before the Board for her third suspension. She was suspended for bringing alcohol into school. She brought in the alcohol, in a spray bottle and she was spraying it in the other student's mouths. DJ states that Mr. Lewis is correct. Rich Cilley would like to know where DJ got the alcohol. DJ said she got it in the cupboard. It has been there for a long time. Mom states that DJ found out that bringing alcohol to school was an automatic suspension, and that is why she did this. She wanted an easy way out of school. Rich Cilley asks how old DJ is. She is twelve years old. Rich Cilley asks if Jr High is hard for her, and if her friends approved of her doing this. DJ says that yes, it is difficult. She states that she does not have many friends. One of her friends did warn her not to do this. She states that she did this so that some people would like her. Steve Yurick asks if she wants to come back. Yes, DJ would like to come back. She is now concerned if she will graduate to the next grade. If not, she will miss her friends. Todd Lefebvre explains that she is smart, and pleasant. She needs to do her work and worry about impressing herself and her family; they are the important ones here. Steve Yurick explains that if she wants to advance, she is the one that has to make it work. She is the only one that can do it. Todd Lefebvre asks the parents and DJ to step out of the meeting. A decision will be made, and Mr. Lewis will let them know. RECOMMENDATION: To come back to school with the stipulations that she stays out of trouble, and she has no unexcused absences.
