FARMINGTON SCHOOL BOARD MEETING OF MARCH 1, 2004 FARMINGTON HIGH SCHOOL LIBRARY 6:30 P.M. NON- PUBLIC Board Members present: Staff present: Steve Yurick, Chairman Brian Blake, Superintendent Dave Vachon Mike Lee, Principal Dave McGuigan Sean Curran, Athletic Director Richard Cilley Todd Lefebvre Brian explains that during the February 16, 2004, meeting there had been some questions on the coaching positions, and how they were determined last spring. He asks Sean Curran to explain how the process worked last year for the hiring of coaches. Sean explains that he set up a panel for interviewing. The stipend positions are filled annually. Each applicant is interviewed. The panel makes its recommendations and Sean presents all the information to the Board. The panel has completed the interviews and Sean presents the recommendations to the Board for this years Spring coaching positions. Applicants for the baseball coaching position were Paul Bushway, Don Dinwoodie, Chris Carpenter and Jim LaClair. Sean explains that one of the applicants for the baseball coaching position has withdrawn his name, stating that there were internal conflicts and concerns. He did not feel that the position was open. Discussion followed. Brian nominates Don Dinwoodie for baseball coach. MOTION: Todd Lefebvre motions to accept nomination. SECOND: Rich Cilley seconds to discuss. DISCUSSION: discussion followed. VOTE: 3 yes, 2 abstain, Rich Cilley, Steve Yurick Applicants for the softball coaching position were Kelle O'Keefe, Lynda Peaslee, Skip Leary, and Barbara Post. Brian nominates Kelle O'Keefe for softball coach. Discussion followed. MOTION: No motion made Brian nominates Skip Leary for softball coach. MOTION: Todd Lefebvre motions to accept nomination. SECOND: Motion fails for lack of a second. DISCUSSION: Discussion followed. Brian nominates Skip Leary for softball coach. MOTION: Todd Lefebvre motions to accept nomination. SECOND: Dave McGuigan VOTE: 3 yes, 2 abstains, Rich Cilley and Steve Yurick both abstain in accordance with Policy 302, in regard to being contacted by said nominee prior to this meeting. Brian states that the sign for the High School and Valley View is just about finished. The sign still needs to have an orange line separating the two school names. Brian has received the bill, and explains that when the sign is complete, there will be $375.00 deducted from the bill, due to the legal services required to get the company to finish the job as agreed. Brian presents copies of the sample ballot for the town and school. Brian informs the Board that he has received a letter of resignation from Mr. Albert Colburn. He is resigning from the Middleton School Board. Motion to come out of non-public session. MOTION: Todd Lefebvre motions to come out of the non-public session.
