Your Quest and Madam Eva’s Predictions

D&D Campaign

It’s been a long time since we’ve played, and even longer since you visited Madam Eva the first time way back on July 17th. To help you guys remember her words I’m including them here. I’ll also include a quick quest synopsis that distills your adventures so that you don’t have to re-read ten different session logs. Hopefully that will help you choose what paths to take.

Back during your first adventure to recover the Heart of Frost from the ruined temple of Pelor in the Silver Wood you found a message and map left by the long dead High Priest Gaerdies Mulinex. He confessed to having abandoned his compatriots during an adventure to a ruined castle high in the Barrier Peaks. Taking all the treasure he could drag with him he left them to their fates when death was imminent. As he fled through the mountains he cached some of the treasure in a cave to speed his flight. For years he kept the secret of his shame and, when death became certain during the fall of the temple, he left this message as a confession. The note begged any who found it to trek to the mountains and find his friends bodies and lay them to rest. He offered the location of the cached treasure as reward.

After many intervening adventures and a long winter you all made your way to the foot of the Barrier Peaks. Leaving most of your men and baggage behind you set out into the old mountain pass. Beset by monsters, wolves, and even a werewolf you climb higher and higher into the mountains. After many days travel you find the cave and treasure cache left by Gaerdies. Within are many items of great value, including several scrolls with mighty spells, valuable art pieces, and a strange brass triangle inscribed with runes. While camping that night Rebecca discovers that one of the moons is missing from the night sky. Something strange is happening.

You reach the top of the mountains and see a huge fog shrouded valley before you. A single tower is seen poking above the mist many miles away. You journey into the valley and find a road that leads you to the Zombie infested town of Bradeni. After defeating the zombie incursion you learn that the town is cursed, ruled over by an evil lord in the nearby castle named Ishtvan. You hear stories of local lore regarding the lord of the castle and mighty relics that could defeat him. The locals all bid you to visit Madam Eva the fortune teller in a nearby Gypsy camp.

You travel to the Madam Eva’s camp and she agreed to consult the cards to answer your questions. She asks you what things you would like to know about, and you reply; Ishtvan, The Sunsword, and the Holy Symbol of Dragos. She reads the cards and gives you the following information on each:

Ishtvan: He who dwells in the castle is a powerful man whose enemy is the light and whose powers are beyond mortality. You will seek him in the castle, and though he might find you many times, you will find him only once. You will find him in the very heart of darkness, his home, his source. This place is his center and his life, the one place to which he must return. You should seek him the crypts in the deepest recesses of the castle. The powers of good will ward you when you strike him in the place. Out of the darkness and chaos, this final card finds its reason and foundation. It shows the purpose of all things – the key to life and death and else beyond. Yet, this shows that there is no reason, no pattern to this chaos. The darkness seeks light, desiring fulfillment or perhaps destruction. The lord of the castle has sunk into madness, perhaps because of his love for a woman.

The Sunsword: What you seek is a blade of light, a weapon for vengeance. Seek it in the place of death, among the dead. The sword’s light sleeps. To wake it bring it to the dizzying height that all loathe to climb. This is the castle’s highest tower, where the road ever upward may yet pierce the clouds that shroud the sun.

The Holy Symbol of Dragos: This symbol is a powerful force for good and protection against the forces of darkness. Seek it in the place of blasphemy, where humans plumb their darkest nature. The symbol has been brought low, to the hill where the witches gather. The holiness in this item waits for hands of holiness to touch it once more, but hat is not enough to bring its power back to life. You must place it on the throne of an ancient king. The castle above was once the seat of a kingdom.
