President's Message:

It is hard to believe summer is over and snowmobile season is right around the corner.  Last years trail preparations seem like they were just a few weekends ago.  I guess the lack of snow last year and the limited riding makes me feel like I didn`t get the chance to truly enjoy the fruits of our labors.  However, last year is in the past and if the Farmers Almanac is correct this winter could make up for it.

We are hoping to interest new participant in club activities this season and value all member input.  This club is sponsored by our local community volunteers who all have very busy lives.  The more individuals who participate the stronger the club will become.

I want to personally thank all private businesses who continually sponsor club activities.  Without the support of our local businesses we would not be where we are today.

Preparations for this upcoming season begin early and on August 5th, 2004 we held a directors meeting with seven of the nine directors in attendance.  The main purpose of the meeting was to discuss and vote on payment for the new Tucker Sno-Cat groomer.  Some highlights of the meeting are listed below:

1. Federal RTP grant was received for $20,000
2. State grant in aid grant was received for $56,000
3. Club has submitted payments towards groomer of $25,000
4. The remaining $15,000 will be financed over two years

We expect to receive the groomer by October 1st.  We are planning to have an informal training session provided by Cooks Equipment and all potential groomers will be notified of the date and time.  We will be providing pizza and drinks for the operators in attendance.  This should be a lot fun and we are all very excited about the addition of this new critical piece of equipment.  We hope to see all operators there.

This new groomer introduces additional expenses to the clubs budget and we would appreciate any and all donations to help recover this cost.

There has been a change in the way clubs are insured within the state of New Hampshire.  This change affects the club and its members directly.  The change requires all private club members to become members of NHSA (New Hampshire Snowmobile Association).  This results in an additional $10 per member per year.  These funds go directly to NHSA.  This requirement has been stipulated by the underwriter to Allied Insurance who is Cincinnati Insurance.  NHSA is the policy holder in the eyes of the underwriter therefore all private club members must also be members of the club which holds the policy (NHSA).

Enclosed with this newsletter is your Powdermill SMC membership form.  As years past the family membership fee is $25 and single memberships are $15.  As of this year, members must also include an additional $10 for the NHSA membership as described above.  There is no need to write separate checks you need only write one check with the full amount ($35 for family and $25 for single) to Powdermill SMC.
The only exception is if you have already joined another club and submitted payment for the NHSA membership.  If this is the case you need only submit the Powdermill SMC membership amount.  Understand that you will NOT receive a NHSA card from Powdermill SMC for registration purposes as we assume you have already received this from your other clubs membership.

Trail Master Note:

Major trail cutting and trimming is scheduled to begin on Saturday September 18th.  This is when we will need a majority of our volunteers.  So please talk to the wife or significant other and plan to spend a morning with other club members out on our trails.  In the past it has been difficult to schedule trail maintenance as we are all very busy. We have decided to schedule a four hour block each Saturday and meet at the New Durham town hall at 8am.  However, we ask that all who plan to participate send a confirmation email to Mike Geldings mrg@metrocast.net so we can plan the mornings activities based on attendance.

As some of you might know we did not receive a volunteer for club Secretary.  This is a critical position within the club.  We ask that anyone interested please email Ryan Tetreault at rtate@metrocast.net to discuss.  This position no longer involves any membership responsibilities as we have a Membership Coordinator.  The main duties of the Secretary include meeting minutes and club newsletter.  The club newsletter is also submitted to NHSA.  Most of the content is provided by the club President, Trailmaster and Directors.  THe Secretary need only put the final document together and submit.

The first club meeting will be held in the game room above the garage at the Mike Gelinas residence located at 30 Ham Road New Durham.
